What happens if it rains?
There’s no such thing as bad weather – just the wrong kit! We raft in rain, sun, wind, snow and hail, and provide the specialist equipment you need. Some of our best white water rafting days are when it’s raining!
Can I choose the rafting location?
No – we chase the water! We choose the best location based on river levels and conditions. Your final meeting point will be confirmed approximately 24 hours before your trip and may be within around a one-hour travel radius of the planned location.
Do I need previous white water rafting experience?
Not at all. Our North Lakes Taster is designed as a brilliant introduction to white water rafting and is suitable for complete beginners. You’ll receive a full safety briefing and instruction from your experienced raft guide.
What shoes should I wear?
Please wear a swim suit and trainers or walking boots that can get wet, with a secure fit and good tread. Crocs, flip-flops and water shoes are not permitted. We provide everything else.
Will I get wet?
Getting wet is part of the fun. You’ll be provided with a wetsuit and all the specialist rafting and safety equipment you need.
Can children take part?
Yes. The North Lakes Taster is suitable from age 8 and makes a brilliant family adventure. Children must be accompanied by a responsible participating adult.
Do I need to be able to swim?
Yes. All participants must have a basic ability to swim. You’ll wear a buoyancy aid throughout the activity and receive a full safety briefing before getting on the river.
How fit do I need to be?
You don’t need to be super fit! A basic level of fitness and mobility is required to access the river, get in and out of the raft and take part. The trip is suitable for beginners. Our North Lakes Taster includes a magical walk of approximately 15 minutes through the forest to reach the river. We usually transport you to the access point before the walk. Depending on arrangements on the day, you may also be given the option to meet us there. Your guide will confirm the plan and access arrangements for your trip.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes. All participants must weigh under 20 stone (127kg).
How long does the experience last?
Please allow approximately 2.5 hours for the full experience, including around one hour on the water. Timings can vary because we raft on a natural river, so we recommend allowing some flexibility in your plans.
Where exactly do we meet/ end?
Your final meeting point will be sent approximately 24 hours before your trip. We use natural rivers and choose our location according to water levels and conditions, so please check your email and phone before travelling. We provide a free shuttle back to the meeting point after your trip where required. If you fancy stretching your legs instead, you’re also very welcome to walk back! 🚶
Can I bring a GoPro?
Yes. You’re welcome to bring a GoPro or similar action camera, but it cannot be attached to your helmet. Please bring your own secure chest/body harness.
Is rafting cancelled in bad weather?
Generally, no! White water rafting is one of the best things to do in the Lake District when the weather turns wild. We provide the right kit and only alter plans when river or weather conditions make it necessary for safety.
Can I bring my dog?
Unfortunately, dogs can’t join you on the raft. As our trips involve transport, changing locations and time on the river, we recommend arranging somewhere safe for your dog during your adventure. At this time we don’t have a recommended alternative unfortunately but if we find one we will update this!
Where do I leave my belongings?
Please leave your belongings securely in the boot of your car and avoid bringing valuables where possible. We’ll look after your car keys while you’re on the river, so you don’t need to take them rafting with you.
